JUNG vs. Look-Alikes
Why Choose JUNG? What Makes These Skates Unique?
Conclusion
Developing and constructing a machine skate so that it actually works is an extremely difficult task.
One can construct a steel body with wheels at the bottom into a skate, but it may drag over the surface instead of rolling. It may be close to impossible to change direction unless the cargo load is lifted. It may damage the floor. It may be unmovable unless a towing vehicle drags the load rather than rolling it. The skate may fail terribly. It may need frequent repairing. The wheels need to be taken out and replaced very often.
JUNG has the technological know-how to develop, test, and manufacture machine skates in Germany for more than 40 years, with one single goal in mind: To build a machine skate that truly works ... and works ... and works.
Our skates will roll with ease, turn with ease, will leave floors intact, perform well under the toughest operating conditions, and have a long life span. They make the job much easier, much faster, and much more reliable for a very long time.
As the original and finest skates in the industry, our products have been cloned into look-alikes. While the copied products may look the same - and can certainly move a load from place A to B - how easily and how reliably separates the good products from the bad.
When compared with all the look-alikes, JUNG skates are the only ones designed, engineered, tested, certified, and permanently improved from the ground up - instead of being just imitated. They differentiate themselves from the look-alikes:
- By having a much higher breaking point
- Higher safety capacity (often times non-existing on look-alikes)
- Conforming to safety regulation (as compared to not conforming)
- Much better rolling and turning capabilities
- Better engineering employed under the hood
- Higher reliability and durability
- Longer life span
- Better quality parts and materials
- Making use of components constructed for the exact purpose
- Manufactured in an advanced production line
- Built by robots to guarantee consistent premium quality
- Incredibly high value as opposed to cost
- And with professional support and engineering assistance after the purchase
JUNG products deliver excellence Made in Germany.
Let's take a closer look at the differences:
Cost
JUNG skates are on average 20 percent higher in price than look-alikes. The higher price contains the engineering expenses, testing expenses, development expenses, higher quality materials and compounds, and better manufacturing technologies.
Higher quality is simply more expensive to deliver. In exchange, customers get a device that is way more cost effective over time as operating expenses like wheel replacement and repair costs are minimized. The long life ensures no reoccurring capital expenses for replacement, reduced labor costs because the job gets done faster, and no expenses associated with equipment failures.
Example:
Among the biggest expenses during a skate's lifespan is the replacement of wheels because of wear and point-loading when going through a pebble or ledge. Our wheels will last longer than any other wheel due to its far superior chemical composition. It's like buying a 100,000-mile tire for a car as opposed to just a 40,000-mile tire. This alone keeps your cost of ownership surprisingly low compared to having to pay $1,000 every two years to exchange the wheels.
Please read our special section on JUNG wheel material. It explains what makes the material unique and superior.
Capacity
JUNG rates the load bearing capacity at which the dollies will roll and turn effortlessly (and not the load bearing at which the dollies will fail).
This separates the product from others which are rated at the breaking point. Which means that with our skates, you can load the skates with the maximum rated capacity and nevertheless expect the skates to function very well and absolutely safe.
Safety is an important aspect of the design and rating system.
A safety capacity is built into the design far above the rated maximum capacity in order to protect against unintended overloading, and to minimize any risk to the operators and the load.
JUNG is the only company that tests its dollies and jacks to the most current ASME safety specifications. This industry standard B30.1 defines the minimum safety factors needed for OSHA requirements.
This high level of reliability means that customers in the nuclear industry use our dollies to transport nuclear substances. It's rather unlikely that any look-alike device could indeed pass a test in order to conform to ASME standards.
* Please note that testing can only be done for dollies up to 12 tons of capacity, but the larger dollies are manufactured to the same specifications.
Roll and Turn
The main function of any machine skate is to commence rolling easily, then to continue rolling easily, and finally to turn easily.
After 40 years of rigorous testing and experimenting with traditional wheel materials, we realized that traditional materials do not perform well enough, and eventually developed our own materials.
We called these wheel materials JUWAthan-plus and JUWAmid, and they are exclusively offered for our dollies. Find more information about the wheel material under the section "Wheel Info" on our website.
Our exclusive wheels have shown to do the job far superior over traditional materials. In fact, we found the traditional materials to be downright inadequate.
Build
JUNG actually has an in-house engineering team that is constantly seeking to improve the products. We have been doing this for more than 40 years now. Every improvement is then tested in collaboration with professional machinery movers and erectors in Germany before the improved product is released into the market. This procedure has led to a complete understanding of the issues, and how solutions are built into the products. Such evolved technology, knowledge, screening and awareness cannot be found at other manufacturers.
Our products are built with parts that are specifically developed and manufactured for its main purpose. Garden variety and off-the shelf acquired compounds have proven to be not reliable enough.
We make use of precision components and manufacturing processes so that each of our products has the exact same dimension and shape - each is literally identical in quality.
One example for the quality we can achieve: Tiny variations in the diameter of the balls in bearings will result in an unequal load distribution, and this little defect will cause failure sooner or later. Therefore we only utilize precision parts which contribute to obtaining a high-quality product in the end.
Our products go through various quality and performance tests in the company lab. We rely on testing components first - and not testing through customer response, in other words failures.
We employ the latest technological innovations. We constantly study new manufacturing technologies, material science, and new design approaches in order to get an even stronger product that is also easier to use.
One example for the technology we employ: Our steel frames are built like a bridge. That means they can twist and bend without breaking. Our state-of-the-art 4-way steel bending technique and interlocking frame segments let the frames literally soak up shocks and impact loading to provide the highest reliability possible.
Engineering
Our models are engineered. That means they are designed and built for a reason, and some of these reasons are solely noticeable to an engineer.
One example for the engineering way of thinking: The intense friction forces within the bearings cause heat in the wheels (similar to the wheel and axle assembly in a car). The heat is unsafe for employees and weakens components. Thus our frames are designed like radiators, they suck away the heat from the wheels and dissipate it into the room. Such engineering of even the finest performance facets can only be found on JUNG skates.
Reliably and Robustness
From 40 years of experience we know that a skate will perform nicely while it is new. But with every move, the frame may deform ever so slightly, the wheels may possibly warp, or invisible hairline cracks may appear.
Gradually, these small inflicted incidents accumulate into a failure, which in many cases causes a domino effect of multiple failures - and ultimate breakdown.
We have, over the course of 40 years, identified these weaknesses (with the help of a quality tracing program), and piece by piece reengineered the product to eliminate these. In these days, our skates are well-performing the first day in use and also ten years later.
We actually quite often deliver replacement parts for dollies and jacks that are reliably operating after 20 years of usage. Believe it or not the majority of JUNG skate owners do not replace their models because of whatever failures or troubles, but because they want to upgrade to new technology (typically after twelve years), and because they are so content with our products.
Failure
A product failing could imply that the cargo gets damaged or, in the worst case, the operator gets injured. Moving 20 tons is not exactly the same as moving a refrigerator. No product on Earth can attain a zero-percent failure rate. Nevertheless, our constant goal is to reach and hold the lowest possible failure rates of all.
Therefore we put quality before low cost, therefore we have a rigorous quality assurance program, therefore we monitor, trace, and over engineer every possible weakness. As a consequence, we are trusted for moving precious and dangerous loads, machines that a business depends on, while at all times protecting the operator.
This is the reason why our skates are the only skates trusted for moving nuclear substances.
Parts and Support
We consult our customers and listen to their load moving issues. We collect every concern that a customer brings us and search for an answer. We then create descriptions and documents, leading to a library of information that can help the next customer.
Furthermore, we are never going to push for a sale; we do not even employ sales staff. When you call us, we will provide information, and not just information - we will support our customers with engineering assistance if needed, that is before any purchase and ten years or more after.
We strive to make a difference - with practical knowledge and not with a sales pitch. And of course, we help identify any complications and will deliver any parts needed (going back 40 years if necessary). We will be at help when you need us - that is our customer service commitment.
Comparison of Rotating Skates
